how time gets away.

This fall has proven very busy indeed.

I haven't had time to sew anything for myself.

I've have a few ecclesiastical sewing projects to complete in the last couple months & I have done a bit of knitting here and there. I was trying to finish the Marion sweater, though the knit-along deadline passed, I think... haven't been reading up on anyone's blogs... but I was just to the hem of the bottom edge when I realized I'd botched one twist of the cable pattern, holding back to front instead of front to back...

This was in part due to the fact that it was a travel project made in airports, cars, and here and there in bits on a lunch break or a meeting.  It's not a hard pattern at all - not a mistake I should have made... but I made it.

And so I frogged the entire sweater.  I would hate it forever with it's wrong way round cable, and I didn't love it enough to redo a good 10 inches of knitting. I'd rather start a fresh pattern.

Goodbye! I actually didn't like the cable pattern on the Marion very much, even when done right.  It looks really nice in the example on the pattern and one mushroom brown heather one on ravelry with dark brown leather buttons quite took my fancy... but with this dark yarn, it just looked a bit mushy.  I thought this would be a navy color when I ordered it (it was called midnight heather) but it's more of an inky black with ever so slight bits of green and navy.  I'm also not as much a fan of the set-in sleeve on top down and more a fan of top-down raglans.

I've learned some things about myself in this time away from being able to be really creative and productive with sewing and knitting.  The first thing is that I really just love to make the same sort of dress over and over and I am okay with that.  I don't have time to make everything in my wardrobe right now - so there's no point getting stressed about not making my own tees or unders or yoga clothes.

And another thing - knitting has become a retreat, a way to destress - I just want to watch something mindless and knit stockinette stitch for vast expanses at a time to unwind & then spend a bit of time finishing it off on a weekend or a quiet night - and for this reason... top-down raglan cardigans are my very favorite for this purpose, but I felt guilty about wanting to always make something easy, but  I see no reason not to just embrace that and make a whole passel of them now.

So maybe blogging my army of raglan cardis and fit/flare dresses could be a bit dull, but I have nothing to prove - I just want to have fun making some thing that I will enjoy wearing.

  1. Hi Kate! Your blog has been really quiet these days. Hope all is well. And I wouldn't mind seeing the same dress in different fabrics over and over again. If it ain't broken, why fix it.

Also. I'm not sure if you have time to read other blogs right now as you mentioned that you were busy and didn't do much blog reading in October. Anyways. I'm rambling. What I wanted to say is I nominated you to do the Blog Hop Tour question answering thing. If you have time, I would be thrilled to hear what you have to say :)
